Jax on the Tracks

Jax on the Tracks serves classic diner charm in downtown Truckee. It offers hearty breakfasts, quirky vibes, and a festive Nutcracker surprise.

First Impressions

Jax is a classic diner right in downtown Truckee. It’s got the old-school counter, booths, and that cozy breakfast buzz. Frankie noticed a giant Nutcracker near the door right away (somehow I missed it). The place has a lot of personality.

What We Ate

Frankie had the French toast with sausage and hot chocolate. She was a fan—especially of the sugar. It was a big portion, maybe too much.

I got the corned beef hash with eggs and toast, plus coffee. It tasted fine, but the eggs came on the side instead of on top of the hash, which made the whole thing feel a little disjointed. Also, the plate wasn’t super hot, which bugged me a bit.

Fun Menu Finds

There’s more on the menu than you might expect. Monte Cristo sandwich, crab cake Benedict, and milkshakes—lots of options we didn’t try this time. The Monte Cristo caught our eye for next visit.

What Could Be Better

I’d love for the eggs to be stacked right on the hash—makes it easier to enjoy. And making sure the food’s hot when it comes out would help. Frankie’s only feedback: “more sugar.”

About the Restaurant

Jax is housed in a 1940s diner car that got moved to Truckee in the ‘90s. It’s been through a few owners and even made it onto Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. These days it’s known for big breakfasts and a solid local following.

Final Score

Would We Go Back? Yep, we would.
