Squeeze In Truckee
Join Matt & Frankie as they squeeze into Truckee’s beloved breakfast spot, Squeeze In, for towering hot chocolates, teddy bear pancakes, and toast worth writing home about. A quirky, kid-friendly brunch adventure with a side of sass.
First Impressions

Squeeze In lives up to its name—this narrow, 10-foot-wide, 62-foot-long breakfast nook in downtown Truckee is a snug spot with a big personality. The walls are a colorful collage of Sharpie signatures, dollar bills, and stickers, creating a vibrant, if slightly chaotic, atmosphere. Frankie was particularly intrigued (or perhaps unsettled) by a large silver statue at the entrance. Despite the tight quarters, the place exudes a quirky charm that's hard to ignore.
What We Ate

Frankie: Opted for the Teddy Bear Pancake adorned with warm fruit, accompanied by a towering hot chocolate crowned with whipped cream and sprinkles. The pancake was "good but fluffy," perhaps a tad too squishy for her taste, especially when compared to mom's denser, gluten-free versions.
Matt: Chose the "Spanish Flay" omelette—a nod to Bobby Flay's 2010 "Throwdown" episode featuring Squeeze In. This dish combined chorizo, peppers, onions, and came with a side of tomato pesto, potatoes, and sourdough toast. While the omelette was initially on the dry side, the tomato pesto added much-needed moisture and flavor. The standout, however, was the perfectly toasted sourdough, sourced from the local Truckee Sourdough Company.
Fun Menu Finds

The menu is extensive, boasting over 60 omelette combinations with playful names like "Racy Tracy" and "Hot Sweaty Busboy." Frankie was tempted by the cinnamon rolls, an unusual but delightful brunch option. The drink menu is equally adventurous, featuring mimosas and the infamous 1-liter "Hail Mary" Bloody Marys garnished with grilled cheese sandwiches.
What Could Be Better
While the generous portions are a hallmark of Squeeze In, they can be overwhelming. Matt noted that the omelette could have been just as satisfying with fewer eggs, and the bottomless toast, though delicious, was more than necessary. The ambiance, while lively, might benefit from a bit of decluttering to enhance the dining experience.
About the Restaurant
Established in 1974 by a group of Truckee ski enthusiasts, Squeeze In began as a tiny kitchen serving omelettes out of a back alley. In 2004, the Young family purchased the restaurant, bringing their daughters Shila and Kay into the fold. Their passion and dedication transformed Squeeze In into a beloved local chain, now boasting multiple locations across California and Nevada. Despite its growth, the original Truckee location retains its unique charm and continues to be a community favorite.
Final Score
🥓 2.5 out of 5 Bacons
Squeeze In offers a memorable dining experience with its eclectic decor and hearty portions. While the food is satisfying, the overwhelming servings and bustling atmosphere might not make it a frequent stop for everyone.
Would We Go Back? It's a fun spot to revisit every couple of years, especially when craving a unique brunch experience.
